Staff Correspondent
Belgaum: Yellurves Charmakar SudharnaYuvak Mandal, Belgaum, has lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta against the officials of Belgaum City Corporation who allegedly failed to protect public property demolished by vested interests. In its complaint, mandal president B.R. Pawar alleged that the community hall built under the 18 per cent grants meant for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes welfare programmes was demolished in March 2003. He said it was brought to the notice of the then Deputy Commissioner who had directed the Corporation Commissioner on March 22, 2003, to investigate and take action in the matter. The Corporation Commissioner submitted a report stating that a youth organisation at the instance of a former corporator demolished the community hall without taking any permission from the corporation. But the corporation failed to take action, in spite of instructions from the Deputy Commissioner. The mandal said the Lokayukta should initiate action against the Corporation Commissioner, City Engineer, Law Officer and members of the organisation that demolished the building.
