Nagercoil: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has decided to install 15 cell phone towers in the district in addition to the existing 38 towers, said Principal General Manager (Operation) T.S.Kuppuswamy. Speaking at a function organised in connection with the distribution of Bharat Sanchar Sarathy and Sanchar Seva Padak awards on Monday, he said that the BSNL had extended cell phone connections to 34,000 people. In order to extend the service and ensure the reach of cell phone service to those in rural areas, it was decided to install 15 more towers. The works would be completed on or before August 31. Landline connections would be given to customers within 47 days from the receipt of application. Sanchar Seva Padak Awards were given to Bhupesh, Junior Telecom Officer, Sankara Narayanan, Sub-Divisional Engineer, and Vijayakumaran Nair, Divisional Engineer. Bharat Sanchar Sarathy Awards were given to Suyambulingam, telecom mechanic, Clemensa, senior telecom operating assistant (general), Athikan, telecom operating assistant, and Vidhyadaran Pillai, telecom technical assistant.
