DINDIGUL: There was a sharp slump in total voters in the district for 2006 Assembly polls compared to 2004 Lok Sabha polls and 2001 Assembly polls. Women outnumbered men in all seven Assembly segments. The district administration displayed final list at all schools having polling centres, panchayat union offices, post offices, Revenue Divisional Offices and municipal offices in Palani and Dindigul for public view. Total voters in the district were 13,06,008 including 6,42,088 men and 6,63,920 women, which was down by 6.55 per cent compared to 2004 LS polls and 8.66 per cent less than 2001 assembly polls. (Total electorate was 14,29,916 and 13,97,482 voters for 2001 and 2004 polls respectively). While total voters in six out of seven assembly constituencies got reduced compared to previous assembly polls, Nilakottai segment had registered a marginal increase by 0.55 per cent compared to 2001 polls. Total voters were 1,76,329 including 86,558 men and 89,471 women. However, there was a drop of 9.5 per cent of voters when compared to 2004 LS polls. Dindigul Assembly constituency suffered a severe set back as its total electorate dropped by 22.37 per cent, in number 62,559 voters, compared to 2001 assembly polls. The total electorate in Dindigul was 2,17,019 voters including 1,07, 374 men and 1,09,645 women compared to 2,79,578 voters in 2001 polls. The number of voters came down by 8.95 per cent compared to 2004 LS elections. Palani, next to Dindigul, too suffered a reduction of 27,278 voters, down by 14.51 per cent compared to 2001 assembly poll. The total voters in Palani constituency was 1,60,612 voters including 79,729 men and 80,883 women, which was 1,87,890 in the previous assembly poll. Difference between two assembly polls in Natham, hometown of Transport Minister R. Viswanathan, was very slim. There was a drop of about 1.10 per cent voters compared to 2001 polls. The total voters in Natham were 1,79,362 including 87,821 men and 91,541 women compared to 1,81,370 voters in 2001 polls. However, there was 7.58 per cent dip in total voters for 2006 election compared to 2004 LS polls. In Oddanchatram, the total voters were less by 9.37 per cent compared to 2001 polls. Total electorate was 1,60,308 including 79,127 men and 81,181 women. In Vedasandur, total electorate was less by 2.80 per cent compared to 2001 polls and 5.28 per cent compared to 2004 polls. Total electorate was 2,10,246 voters including 1,02,980 men and 1,07,266 women. Similarly, total voters in Athoor segment for 2006 polls had been reduced by 4.88 per cent in 2001polls and 4.60 per cent in LS polls. Total electorate was 2,02,132 of which men were 98,199 and women 1,03,933.
