Lok Sabha cheers cricket team

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The cricket team's exploits against England on Monday were keenly followed by the Lok Sabha, with Speaker Somnath Chatterjee announcing that the hosts had bowled out the visitors in the second innings.

Mr. Chatterjee's `flash news' was welcomed by members with thumping of desks. Since the beginning of the day's proceedings, cricket cropped up intermittently. As soon as the House met, Mr. Chatterjee made a suo motu observation that he believed that the members would join him in congratulating Anil Kumble on his outstanding performance.

"Sir, in the morning Munaf Patel has taken three wickets in two overs," Minister of Heavy Industry Sontosh Mohan Dev said. "Let us wait for his further greater and greater performance," Mr. Chatterjee said.
