Tamil Desiya Katchi plans to contest 72 seats

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Tamil Desiya Katchi, political wing of the Kongu Velala Gounder Peravai, will contest 72 constituencies in the Assembly elections if it is not allotted 10 seats by any of the major alliances.

In a statement issued on Monday after a meeting of the Peravai and the Federation of Kongu Velala Gounders Association held here on Sunday, Peravai president R. Devarajan said the list of candidates would be announced on March 27.

As most of the community members were engaged in agriculture, the Government should declare it as a most backward community.

One hundred per cent subsidy should be granted for drip irrigation. Agriculture subsidy should be enhanced and use of native seeds encouraged. Toddy tapping should be permitted, he said.
