Dental colleges forum's plea to Chief Minister

Staff Reporter

`Allow us to have a say in admissions'

BANGALORE: Upset over its non-representation in the two committees formed to resolve the professional college admissions issue, the Karnataka Private Dental Colleges Association on Monday urged Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to allow it to have a say in matters concerning admission to dental colleges.

Association president L.K. Raju said his forum was the first to moot the two panels and it was unfortunate that the association had no role in it.

He said colleges running both medical and dental courses jointly had good source of income, further boosted by postgraduate courses. But colleges that had only dental courses were suffering a financial crisis, he pointed out. Mr. Raju said the Dental Council of India rules required the colleges to have two specific model chairs per student. These dentist chairs cost about Rs. 1.25 lakhs per unit, he said referring to the expenses.
