PATHANAMTHITTA: The Lord Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala was opened at 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday for the five-day monthly puja in the Malayalam month of Meenom beginning Wednesday. Melshanti M. Sukumaran Namboodiri opened the sanctum sanctorum and Tantri Kantaru Mohanaru performed the kalasa puja in the evening for the auspicious sahasrakalasom to be performed on Wednesday. Today's rituals: Opening of sanctum sanctorum: 5 a.m.; Ganapati homam: 5.10 a.m.; Abhishekom: 5.30 a.m.; Usha puja: 7.30 a.m.; Utcha puja: 12.15 p.m.; Closing of sanctum sanctorum: 12.30 p.m. Opening of sanctum sanctorum: 5 p.m.; Deeparadhana: 6.30 p.m.; Pushpabhishekom: 7 p.m.; Padi puja: 8 p.m.; Athazha puja: 9.30 p.m.; Harivarasanam: 10 p.m. The sahasrakalasom will be held again on March 18 and kalabhabhishekom on March 19. The temple will be closed after the athazha puja on March 19 evening.
