Chandraprasad Tyagi dead

HASSAN: Chandraprasad Tyagi, one of the founders of undivided Dalit Sangharsh Samithi (DSS), died of kidney failure at K.R. Hospital in Mysore on Tuesday. He was 54. Mr. Tyagi was bedridden for several days and he was being treated for kidney-related problems.

As the news spread, Dalit leaders went to the hospital to pay tributes to their leader.

Mr. Tyagi, who was born in Mavinahalli of Hassan district, went to Bhadravati to work at the Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Company Limited (VISL), where he came under the influence of Dalit leader, B. Krishnappa. He participated in various agitations concern the dignity of Dalits. He was the first convenor of the undivided DSS in Hassan and later he became part of the Central Committee.

The body was brought to Hassan in the evening. It will be cremated in Mavinahalli on Wednesday.

Leader of AHINDA, Manjunatha Datta, Munivenkate Gowda, artist, K.T. Shivaprasad and leaders of DSS factions have condoled the death of Mr. Tyagi.
