HYDERABAD : The State Government has rejected on security grounds the offer of Prince Mukkaramjah to donate the Khilwat palace in the old city for the purpose of locating a permanent exhibition of the fabulous Nizam's jewellery. Replying to a question in the Assembly on Monday, Tourism Minister J. Geeta Reddy said the Government was in search of a good building with focus on security to exhibit 173 items of the jewellery. The State Museum, Health Museum and Jawahar Bal Bhavan were surveyed for the purpose but it was finally decided that the security agencies of Central and State Governments be involved in the hunt for the building. She said the State Trading Corporation had recently proposed that the exhibition of Nizam's collections be integrated with its gems and jewellery park at Banjara Hills. However, this was also rejected on security grounds. Ms. Reddy maintained that the Government was committed to bringing back the jewellery to the city rather than allow them to languish in the vaults of the Reserve Bank of India at Mumbai.
