"Convergence of many disciplines will create prosperous human beings"

Dynamic features of ICT contribute to broad-based growth: expert

PROUD MOMENT: Deputy Director of Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore, N. Balakrishnan, greets a graduate while handing over the certificate at the Graduation Day in the Pondicherry Engineering College on Tuesday.

PONDICHERRY: Dr N. Balakrishnan Deputy Director, Indian Institute of Sciences (IIS), Bangalore, has said that the convergence of many disciplines such as Information Communication Technology (ICT), Bio Technology and Nano Technology would have the potential of creating prosperous and healthy human beings.

Distributing certificates to the candidates of Pondicherry Engineering College here on Tuesday on the occasion of the Graduation Day cum College Day, Dr. Balakrishnan referred to the dynamic features of the computer and also of the information technology. He said dynamism and innovation should go hand in hand and computers, which were now thinking machines, would also grow into spiritual machines in the future.

He called upon the graduates passing out of the institution to contribute to the innovation.

He said that universal digital library was contributing to achieve a high level of integration.

There would be availability of free access, which would improve the accomplishment of global society. He also said that ICT had brought about democratisation of information.

Dr. Balakrishnan administered the pledge to the graduates (both undergraduates and post graduates). Commissioner and Secretary to Department of Education, Pondicherry Government B. V. Selvaraj, who presided, said that as the whole world emerging as a one global community, there would be no borders, boundaries and artificial compartments. Principal of the college T G Palanivelu welcomed those present.
