Pondicherry: Deputy General Manager (Zonal Office, Tiruchirapalli) of the State Bank of India R. Kuppanna has said that entrepreneurs and businessmen were creators of value and were contributors to the success of country's economy. Presenting a talk on "pioneering role of State Bank of India (SBI) in Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Financing" at the seminar on "survival and growth of SMEs" organised by the Pondicherry Regional Business Office of the bank here on Monday, Mr. Kuppanna said that there was every need to recognise entrepreneurs as they were playing a primary and a pivotal role in economic development and growth. He referred to the role the SBI had been playing in facilitating entrepreneurial activities through various programmes by understanding the needs of customers and also of economy. He said that the SBI was adopting a innovative financing programmes with tailor made credit schemes matching the needs of customers. Counselling services cells launched in mid 1970s had been enabling the SMEs to function in several ways. He also highlighted the entrepreneurial schemes and also Entrepreneurship Development Programmes for first generation entrepreneurs launched by the bank .The special programmes of the counselling services cell had been covering entire gamut of small industries such as management, production, planning, inventory management, costing, pricing and marketing facilities etc. The Assistant general Manager of Consultancy Services Cell of SBI Chennai Mr. K. Murali spoke on "survival and growth of SMEs". Regional Manager of the bank in Pondicherry (Regional Business Office) M. Rajendran spoke on the SME products and services available through SBI. Assistant General Manager of SBI Pondicherry T. Srinivasan, who welcomed those present, referred to the involvement SBI in the SME sector. A power point presentation on the emerging scenario of SMEs in Pondicherry was also held. A question answer session was also conducted as part of the seminar on various aspects of the schemes to encourage SMEs. Chief Manager of he Siruthozhil branch of the SBI here M. Sathiyamoorthy presented a vote of thanks.
