KANPUR: Railways won the toss and took the right decision but Haryana paid the penalty for choosing the wrong one as the all-India inter-state one-day tournament witnessed one-sided matches here on Tuesday. Railways, propelled by skipper Sanjay Bangar's brilliance with the bat and the ball, thrashed Gujarat by eight wickets at the Ordnance Equipment Factory ground while Karnataka, guided by Bharath Chipli's brilliant batting, eliminated Haryana by five wickets at the Green Park. The pitch could not be distinguished from the field at the Green Park and Karnataka skipper Barrington Rowland stood in disbelief when Amit Mishra decided to bat. It was bound to be a disastrous decision and the cheap dismissals of openers Sumit Sharma and Mahesh Rawat only confirmed the folly of batting first. In the other match, reduced to 43 overs a side due to damp spots on the pitch, Gujarat was totally outplayed. The scores: (At OEF ground): Gujarat: P. Patel c Ali b Singh 16, V.
