State accused of not providing funds

  • Minister refutes charge, saying that Telangana accounts for highest thermal capacity
  • AP Genco to raise production by adding 1,420 mw
  • Bhoopalapalli station shifted to Chelpur

HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) members staged a walkout in the Assembly on Tuesday accusing the Government of neglecting Telangana in setting up thermal power stations.

Before leading the walkout, party floor leader G.Vijayarama Rao charged the Government with not providing funds to start thermal units in Telangana, although resources like water and coal were available.

Refuting the charge, Power Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir said that Telangana accounted for the highest thermal capacity of 1,282 mw.

The installed capacity in the Andhra region was 1,260 mw and Rayalaseema 420 mw. Of the new projects, a total capacity of 3,334 mw of the proposed 5,000-odd mw, accounting for 54 per cent, would be generated from Telangana.

Earlier, answering the main question, he told T.Harish Rao (TRS) and others that the present installed capacity of AP Genco thermal stations was 2,962.5 mw. The average cost of production in thermal stations was 168 paise/kwh.

    Break-up

Giving details of the quantum of energy generated stationwise and its production cost, he said it was 152 paise/kwh in the Vijayawada Thermal Station (installed capacity 1,260 mw, generation so far 8,786 mu), 277 paise/kwh in the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project (installed capacity 420 mw, generation so far 2,069 mu), 146 ps/kwh in the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (installed capacity 720 mw, generation so far 4,234 mu), 171 Ps/Kwh in the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (Stage V installed capacity 500 mw, 3,112 mu) and 166 paises/kwh in the Ramagundam Thermal Power Station-B ( installed capacity 62.5 mw, 359 mu).

He said that the AP Genco had programmed to enhance production capacity of VTPS by adding 500 mw, RTPS (420 mw) and KTPS (500 mw).

Due to non-clearance of the project by the Forest Department, the original location of the Bhoopalapally Power Station was shifted to Chelpur village, which is free from reserve forest.

    NIMS University

Health Minister K.Rosaiah informed P.Shankar Rao (Congress) and others that the modalities for establishing the NIMS University at Rangapur village in Nalgonda district, were being worked out. In view of the new campus, the budget was enhanced to Rs.34.6 crores this year, as against Rs.12.6 crores last year. He announced that former MLAs who undergo treatment at NIMS need not pay in advance and the amount would be reimbursed.

A meeting with the NIMS director would be convened soon to discuss the charges for the poor.
