Three blocks in Tehri declared backward

The areas announced by the CM are Dhar, Chamba and Jakhnidhar

Dehra Dun: Uttaranchal Chief Minister N. D. Tiwari has declared three development blocks of Tehri district as backward areas. An announcement to this effect was made when a delegation led by Tehri Congress MLA Kishor Upadhyay called on the Chief Minister on Monday evening and demanded that certain areas affected by the 2400 MW dam, be declared as backward.

``We are glad to inform you that Dhar, Chamba and Jakhnidhar areas of Tehri district have been declared as backward areas by the Chief Minister,'' Mr. Upadhayay told reporters here on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Government had declared Pratap Magar as backward area after it was cut off from the rest of Tehri district due to submergence of all linking bridges in the waters of the Bhagriathi river reservoir. Welcoming the move, Jot Singh Bist, the block head of Jakhanidhar, said the step would benefit people of the four Assembly constituencies. PTI
