Holi greetings

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Tuesday extended his greetings to the people of Delhi on the occasion of Holi.

In a statement, Mr. Sharma urged Delhiites to celebrate Holi in the true spirit of brotherhood so as to spread happiness and love all around. He said the festival of colours was celebrated by one and all without any distinction or discrimination.

Jal Board extends rebate schemes

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Jal Board has extended up to March 31 all rebate schemes on pending water bills, water and sewerage development charges and regularisation of unauthorised water connections.

The Board has advised consumers to avail of the benefits of these schemes at the earliest to avoid last-minute rush. For more details, consumers can contact zonal revenue officers or visit the website www.delhijalboard.nic.in.

Book awards instituted

NEW DELHI: The Federation of Indian Publishers has instituted "Books on Books" awards to honour authors and publishers who have written books on the entire gamut of publishing.

The Federation has instituted awards for "Excellence in Book Production", "Distinguished Publishers Award", "Distinguished Women Publishers Award", "Young Publishers Award", "Distinguished Editors and Designers Award" and "Distinguished Translators Award".

"We have done a unique job to honour authors and editors who have written and published books on the technique of publishing and improving the quality of books. The role of these people has never been recognised," said FIP President Emeritus D.N. Malhotra.

Diabetes alarm

NEW DELHI: Heart Care Foundation of India president Dr. K.K. Aggarwal has said that diabetes has reached epidemic proportions in the country and the leading cause of death among people suffering from the disease was coronary heart disease.

Quoting from the February issue of the journal "Diabetes", he said over the past 30 years there had been a dramatic reduction in illness and deaths from coronary heart disease. However, over the past decade, the incidence of heart attacks among diabetics had increased from 21per cent to 36 per cent.

Liquor seized

NEW DELHI: Police has recovered 90 bottles and 507 quarters of illicit liquor in North Delhi in the past 24 hours as part of a special drive to check smuggling during `Holi'.
