Closure of meat shops ordered
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI:
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered closure of all shops selling buffalo meat in the Jhilmil area of North-East Delhi. A Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma passed the order on public interest litigation by Mohammed Sharief, a resident of the area.
He submitted that these shops posed a hazard to public health as they did not conform to the prescribed standards for running such shops.
The Bench directed the MCD to seal these shops within four weeks and file a compliance report on March 19, the next date of hearing. The Bench further directed the Corporation to ensure that no meat shops in the Capital are run in violation of the prescribed norms for operating such shops.
