Kochi: Tension prevailed inside the new High Court complex for hours when the police tried to remove a car of a lawyer parked inside the complex.

Lawyers began gathering in front of the complex when they heard that the police had reached the complex with a recovery van to remove the car. Though parking has been banned inside the complex, the High Court allows entry of cars to bring lawyers to the courts. The police with the recovery van arrived on the orders of the Registrar General of the High Court.

When the police started lifting the vehicle, the lawyers gathered in front of the recovery vehicle and prevented it from moving. The driver of the recovery vehicle allegedly tried to drive through the crowd of lawyers gathered in front of the vehicle.

This created a tense situation leading to the other lawyers taking their vehicles inside the new complex and shouting slogans against the police.

Later, Kerala High Court Advocates' Association president G. Sreekumar met Chief Justice V.K. Bali. During the talk, the Chief Justice rescinded the order of the Registrar General directing the police to remove the vehicle.

The Chief Justice also assured the president that action would be taken against the police constable who misbehaved with the lawyer. The Chief Justice also assured Mr. Sreekumar that the request of the association for providing parking facility for a limited number of cars inside the complex would be considered favourably.

Mr. Sreekumar said that there was a miscalculation on the part of the High Court Registrar. When the car had been identified, the High Court Registry should have immediately contacted the association president and solved the issue. Instead, the High Court Registrar straightway called for police help.
