Thiruvananthapuram Development Council brings out charter of demands

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Medical College should be upgraded to the status of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, the Thiruvananthapuram Development Council has said.

A grouping of 30 organisations functioning for the development of the capital said in a statement here on Friday that the Centre had sanctioned an institute of AIIMS status for the State and it should be given to the Government Medical College here.

The council has brought out a charter of demands that include the setting up a Bench of the High Court, development of Technocity and creating a new economic zone, development of Thiruvananthapuram international airport, construction of Air-India engineering hangar, upgradation of Regional Cancer Centre as a national institute, and setting up of a medical university and headquarters of Indian Institute of Diabetes in Thiruvananthapuram.

Due importance would be given for the development of health, education, infrastructure, tourism and other sectors, the statement said. Secretary Punchakkari Raveendran said the council would function as a pressure group for expediting the development of the capital.
