NEW DELHI: Five persons allegedly involved in killing and robbing two women in separate incidents reported from Kalkaji in South Delhi have been arrested by the South Delhi police. While investigating the murder of Gulshan Kapoor, a 55-year-old woman who was found dead in her G-Block house in Kalkaji on March 7, the police had sent a team to Gonda in Uttar Pradesh where the main suspects were supposed to be hiding. On Monday, the team managed to arrest all the five suspects at Gonda bus stand when they were trying to board a bus to cross over to Nepal. Those arrested have been identified as Rajesh, Suresh, Ram Babu, Ram Sanjiwan and Hasanoo. At their instance, the police recovered Rs. 2,670 in cash, gold bangles and chain, which Ms. Kapoor was wearing on the day she was killed, ownership papers of the jhuggi in which another woman was found killed in January and a bearer cheque for Rs. 5,000 of Punjab National Bank issued by the husband of the deceased in her name. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to having killed Ms. Kapoor on March 7 when she was alone in her house. The police said the Kapoors had employed Suresh but he had left the job. However, he used to remain in touch asking to be hired again. At Ramesh's instigation, Suresh tipped him of about presence of cash and jewellery in the house of Kapoors. As per plan, Ramesh and another associate, Bahale, who is yet to be arrested, assembled near the house during day-time when only Ms. Kapoor was present in the house. Since Suresh knew Ms. Kapoor he managed to gain entry on a false pretext. The elderly woman answered the door and then went in the kitchen to fetch water for him. Suresh then signalled Ramesh and Bahale to come inside. The trio then strangled Ms. Kapoor. They also decamped with Rs. 7,000 in cash and jewellery which she was wearing. The trio assembled in Hasanoo's jhuggi and distributed the booty. Earlier, on the night of January 28, Ramesh and his associates, Ram Babu and Ram Sanjiwan, had murdered Parveen Jena, a woman living in a jhuggi near Ramesh's hideout, the police said. Ramesh wanted the woman to give up the jhuggi. But when she did not oblige, he decided to kill her. In order to prevent the identification of the deceased, they beheaded her and packed the head in a polythene bag. They tried to dispose of the head in some far off place but did not succeed. Efforts are now on to trace Bahale.
