BANGALORE: With the last date for participating in the garbage tenders ending on Wednesday, contractors and corporators aspiring to grab the contracts are making efforts to get the date extended again. Yielding to pressure from these aspirants, the civic body had extended the last date for participating in the tenders from February 28 to March 15. As per the tender notification issued on December 12, February 13 was the last date for applying. Later it was extended to February 28 and again by 15 days. A top official in the BMP's Health Department said Commissioner K. Jothiramalingam has the discretionary powers to extend the last date but only if there are valid reasons for it. "The contractors, who want the last date to be extended again, have not cited any valid reasons so far. It is not likely to be extended again," the official said. The official justified the previous extension and said it had been done to incorporate suggestions made by the applicants during the "pre-bid" meeting.
