SALEM: The scheme for issuing cheques for various payments was introduced in the sub-treasuries in Salem, Omalur, Mettur, Sankagiri and Attur on Wednesday.
Sort out problems
Presiding over the inaugural function of the scheme here, District Treasury Officer A. Rajamani, said the scheme would make the treasury transactions much easier and help sort out various problems in the treasury transactions. The scheme would greatly benefit the government offices, officials and people, he added. Earlier, the State Government had introduced this scheme in the district treasuries, which had now been expanded to select ones.
Sub-treasuries
The district, however, had nine sub treasuries and the scheme would soon be expanded to these treasuries in a phased out manner. Assistant Commissioner, Department of Commercial Taxes, Salem Region K. Sundaram issued the first cheque under the scheme and Salem tahsildar Sriranganthan received it. Assistant General Manager of State Bank of India, Salem P. Alagesan, treasury officials and officers from several government departments attended.
