He received complaints regarding violations of code of conduct.

He asked the parties to clean the walls covered with graffiti and remove suspended banners and huge cutouts.

The parties and candidates should decide in advance the time and venue of proposed public meetings to enable the police make necessary arrangements for controlling traffic and maintaining law and order.

N. Chinnadurai of AIADMK gave a petition asking the Collector to take action against N.K. Raghupathy, Chairman, Sethusamudram Corporation Limited, for violating the code of conduct at a function held here on March 11.

He alleged that Mr. Raghupathy distributed financial assistance to the tune of Rs. four lakh to 10 self-help groups, which underwent training under Coastal Community Development Programme of the corporation.

He said the corporation would distribute welfare assistance worth Rs. 2 lakh to fishermen on April 1, 2006 and extend training to 10,000 more persons.

Both were against the ECI code, which came into existence on March 1, he said.

RDO enquiry

Mr. Chandrasekaran asked the Revenue Divisional Officer to conduct an enquiry and submit a report in a week.

K. Kanagaraj, district secretary, CPI (M), wanted to know why no action was taken against R. Sivasubramanian and P. Ramadurai (Assistant Project Officers, Tamil Nadu Women Development Corporation) and S. A. Yuvarani, Project Officer, Integrated Child Development Scheme, who were continuing in their posts for more than three years.

The party lodged a complaint in this regard on February 16.
