NEW DELHI: The India International Centre Film Club here in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia is showcasing four seminal works by young directors titled "Four Shades of Romance --Films from Slovenia" at the IIC auditorium on Max Mueller Marg. Slovene film aesthetics clearly reflect the country's borderline characteristics. While the influence of social realism was present in Slovene films from early on, cine aesthetics have clearly oscillated between entertainment and politics, art and industry, aesthetics and ideology. "Cheese and Jam", the story of a couple from the lowest rank of the social ladder, was screened on Tuesday. This coming Monday, a 90-minute film titled "Under Her Window" will be shown. It is about Dusa, a young dance teacher who is caught between a dominant mother, an absent father and a married lover. She is fast becoming entangled in her 30s life-crisis. The film has been directed by Metod Pevec. "Carmen", also directed by Metod Pevec, will be screened on March 22. The 94-minute film is about Goran, a writer. He meets Carmen, a beautiful but alcoholic gi,rl and her dissolute friends. In fact, all of them are small-time criminals. Goran joins them in their petty robberies and much against the advice of everyone who knows Carmen, starts a romantic relationship with her. On March 27, a comedy film titled ``Idle Running" will be screened. It is about Dizzi, a disillusioned and somewhat cynical adult-age university student. This one by Janez Burger, who graduated from Prague's Film and Television Academy, has won several international film awards. The film opens with a monologue by the 30-something Dizzi who declares that any attempt to change the world is futile and the best philosophy is to do nothing. In fact, he has accepted a life without responsibility and thinks that sleeping is probably the best occupation. All the films start at 6-30 p.m. and are sub-titled in English. Entries for these screenings are open to IIC Film Club members and invitees of the Embassy of Slovenia.
