dated March 17, 1956: Re-formation of States

The draft States Reorganisation Bill, tabled in Parliament on March 16, envisages 15 States and seven Union Territories. The States are: Andhra-Telengana, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Madras, Maharashtra, Mysore, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir. The new Punjab will include PEPSU. The Union Territories are: Bombay, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Andaman and Nicobar, Laccadives, Minicoy and Amindiv islands.
