Kerala
North Kerala badly needs a hospital with modern facilities. It should be affordable and accessible to common man. In this context, the Kozhikode Medical College (KMC) rightly deserves to be nominated for the institute in the State to be upgraded to the status of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Politicians and organisations are united in their stand to demand the AIIMS status for the KMC. The KMC attracts a large number of patients. It caters to patients of six districts from Kasaragode to Palakkad. It is one among the hospitals in the whole of Asia which take care of huge number of delivery cases. But facilities here are not sufficient to meet the demand. Once the AIIMS status is conferred on it, Central funds will flow in, making way for improved infrastructure. It will also bring in quality staff, available almost round-the-clock.
