Good response to `cool off time' at SSLC examination

Students appearing for the SSLC examination this year round have reportedly responded well to the new 10-minute initiative - `cool off time' - introduced in the examination schedule, for the first time.

On the last two days of the exam, the added time provided to scan the question paper in a relaxed manner, was well utilised by the students.

Educational authorities view the practice as a sincere effort to assist the students to face the challenges posed by the new grading system - introduced to test the multifaceted skills.

The students were being given an opportunity to go through the `thought provoking' question paper that did not expect mechanical answers.

They were expected to identify the answers. The objective perceptibly was to test the aptitude and skill, speed and accuracy, besides promptness of the student, educational authorities point out. The students were encouraged not to attempt the questions straight away. Rather, for 10 minutes they were expected to ruminate on how to write the answers. While the question paper was distributed at 9.45 a.m., the answer sheets were given only at 9.55 a.m.
