LTTE threat to Colombo

V.S. Sambandan

COLOMBO: The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on Thursday held out a threat that the island-nation could slide back to violence if last month's commitments reached in Geneva were not met. Charging the Government with "inaction" and "hyperbolic rhetoric" the LTTE's political wing leader, S.P. Tamilselvan told Norwegian facilitators that the non-implementation of the commitments made in Geneva would have "serious impacts" on the peace process. The LTTE's position was officially conveyed to the Norwegian envoy, Hans Brattskar and the Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, Hagrup Haukland, at a meeting in rebel-held Kilinochchi on Thursday — the first high level contact since the Government and the Tigers met in Geneva on February 22 and 23.
