Rupee strengthens

MUMBAI: The rupee on Thursday notched up by another five paise and closed higher at 44.4250/4350 a dollar, as a buoyant economy continued to attract sustained foreign portfolio investments amid a retreating dollar overseas with trade inflows also giving it a boost.

In moderately active trading at the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee resumed distinctly firm at 44.38/40 against Tuesday's close of 44.4750/4850 but fell to 44.44/45. Strong bunched up dollar supplies from Wednesday's Holi holiday, however, ensured an extended rally to the second straight trading session, dealers said. — PTI
