Nod for task force on health services
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has approved the setting up of a task force on planning for human resource in health services. A statement by the Prime Minister's Office says there is a huge gap in the human resource in the health sector. This has been highlighted in a report of the National Commission on Macroeconomics and Health.
There are growing opportunities, with India emerging as a major centre of low-cost health care.
The fact that India is a demographically young nation gives it an opportunity to have its trained personnel meet the healthcare needs of the demographically ageing countries, says the statement.
Dr. Singh has asked the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman to set up the task force that would have representatives from the Union Health Ministry and Ministries of Health of select States and experts.
