PONDICHERRY: A new political party named as Uzhaippali Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, championing the cause of fishermen, the scheduled caste and the backward people, has been formed and a formal inauguration would be held on Friday at Keezh Puthupet in the Tindivanam taluk, according to the president of the party A.B. Rajendran. He said here on Thursday that the party was committed to achieve the policies of the veteran labour leader Sindhanaisirpi Singaravelar. Mr. Rajendran said that the party would join hands with whichever front invited for the polls. Otherwise the party would go it alone. The new party would contest in 14 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and five in Pondicherry. As far as Pondicherry unit of the party was concerned a five-member team of convenors had been formed to work out the modalities.
