Dharna against decisions of gram sabha

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: Members of the Bharatiya Dalit Panthers on Thursday staged a dharna in front of the Gulbarga Taluk Panchayat office demanding that the decisions taken at the gram sabha at Hagaraga village on allocation of houses under the Ashraya Scheme be cancelled.

The members, led by divisional president of the panthers Mallappa Hosmanikar and district general secretary Lakshman S. Kori, submitted a memorandum to the executive officer of the taluk panchayat.

They alleged that the gram sabha held on March 7 under the chairmanship of the president of the Kusnur Gram Panchayat bypassed conventions related to the selection of beneficiaries.

At least 15 families that have been selected own houses.

The gram panchayat members and the secretary have selected beneficiaries without taking into consideration the recommendations made at the gram sabha, they said.

They demanded that the Gulbarga Taluk Panchayat direct the Kusnur Gram Panchayat to take up employment generation works under the National Employment Guarantee Scheme at Kusnur, Asadpur, and Hagarga villages at the earliest.
