WILL POWER: Students with disabilities writing the SSLC examination at the Anglo Urdu School in Hubli on Thursday.
HUBLI: As many as 24,145 students from Dharwad district appeared for the SSLC examination that began here on Thursday. On the first day, there were no cases of malpractice reported in the district. As many as 564 students were absent. V.M. Patil, Deputy Director of Public Instruction of Dharwad, who visited the examination centres in Dharwad taluk, said the distribution of question papers and the examination went on smoothly. He said even those examination centres considered as sensitive based on the previous records, the examination of the first language paper was conducted without any hitch. There are 73 examination centres in the district, of which eight have been considered as sensitive. In the eight centres, video cameras will be installed during the mathematics, science and social studies papers, Mr. Patil said. In Haveri district, there was no case of examination malpractice on the first day, sources said. However, in Gadag district a student was debarred when an inspection squad found him indulging in malpractice. Officials of the Department of Public Instruction gave the name of the student as Manjunath Hadapad. He was caught by the squad at the examination centre in K.V. Shanthgerimath High School, Ron.
