Party discusses candidature at Polit Bureau meeting

HYDERABAD: M. V. Mysoora Reddy would be the Telugu Desam Party candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat the party is capable of winning. Dr. Reddy's comfortable win appears imminent with party having more than the required number of 42.

Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu announced his candidature on Thursday evening after discussing the issue elaborately in the Polit Bureau.

Asked how he saw Dr. Reddy's choice compared to that of Congress, he quipped, "All their candidates are decided in New Delhi and they invariably include outsiders. We never do that."

K. Ramamohana Rao, who was among the contenders till the end, said he would abide by the party president's decision

Party sources said two factors have gone in favour of Dr. Reddy. The party saw in him a capacity to embarrass the Congress and Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

It would also send a message that there is a definite reward for those who intend to join the party.
