THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Thursday decided to reissue 20 Ordinances, including the controversial Kerala Felonious Activities (Prevention) Ordinance and the Kerala Para Medical Council Ordinance. These laws lapse on Thursday as the Assembly had not passed Bills to replace these Ordinances. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting on Thursday that the decision to repromulgate the Ordinances would be subject to clearance received fromthe Election Commission of India (as the model code of conduct for the elections is in force). The Chief Minister said the Cabinet had decided not to issue new Ordinances though some important legislation had come before it. They included a legislation proposed by the Local Self-Government Department on giving zone exemptions. Of the 21 Ordinances that came before the Cabinet for reissue, the Kerala Repealing and Amending Ordinance, which seeks to delete obsolete laws from the statute book, was excluded.
