KHAMMAM: The coal production in the Singareni Collieries was partially affected as coal miners observed a day's token strike in response to the call given by four revolutionary trade unions on Thursday. The Shramika Shakti Godavariloya Boggughani Karmika Sangham, the Godavariloya Boggughani karmika Union, the Singareni Ghani Karmika Sangham and the Godavariloya Boggughani Karmika Sangham gave the call for the stir. The unions have been demanding, among other things, one-time payment of wage arrears of the seventh wage board. While opposing privatisation moves, they wanted the seven-day working system to be dispensed with. About 10,000 coal workers were away from work while 30,000 reported as usually in the mines for the first shift. Another 10,000 of the total 25,000 workers were absent in the second shift. The strike was partial in Khammam district.
