Haryana's High Court proposal under study, says Bhardwaj

    CHANDIGARH: Union Law Minister Hans Raj Bhardwaj is certain to get elected to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana as the Congress has full majority in the Haryana Assembly. He filed his nomination papers here on Thursday.

    The Rajya Sabha seat will fall vacant with the completion of term of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MP, Faquir Chand.

    Mr. Bhardwaj filed three sets of papers in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, former Chief Minister and president of the Haryana unit of the Congress, Bhajan Lal, and several ministers.

    The Returning Officer, Sumit Kumar, also administered the oath of allegiance to the Constitution to Mr. Bhardwaj. Later, speaking to media persons, the Law Minister said that Haryana's proposal to have a separate High Court was under consideration of the Central Government. A National Law School would also be set up in Haryana. He added that the resolution regarding a separate High Court passed by the Haryana Vidhan Sabha had been received and acknowledgment sent to the Chief Minister.

    The process of consultation with the Chief Justice and the Chief Minister would begin after the conclusion of the ongoing Parliament session. However, he made it clear that was a very complex issue and he would deal with it in a true spirit.

    Asked whether the law was being amended to deal with hostile witnesses, Mr. Bhardwaj said the Union Government had taken the issue very seriously. . The vacancies of judges were also being filled up to speed up disposal of pending cases in various courts, he added.
