Staff Correspondent

Madikeri: Members of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti took out a procession here on Thursday in protest against artist M.F. Husain's "portrayal of gods and goddesses in poor light."

They burnt an effigy of Mr. Husain at General Thimmaiah Circle. District convenor of the samiti Gombe Appachu led the procession.

They demanded that Mr. Husain be arrested and the Padma award given to him withdrawn. Shivananda Prabhu of the samiti from Mangalore, C.N. Somesh, Robin Devaiah, and Ajit Kumar were among those who participated in the procession.
