NALGONDA: The Suryapet police arrested five members of the CPI (ML-New Democracy), including its district unit secretary Jalagam Janardhan alias Janakiramulu alias JK alias Jannu, 45, of Yepur in Atmakur (S) mandal on the charge of extorting money from a Sriramsagar project contractor on Thursday. The arrested persons included Anneboyina Sudhakar alias Dharmanna, 32, of Utkoor in Saligowraram mandal, Tukkani Surender Reddy, 40, of D. Kothapally in Arvapally mandal, Sk. Mahaboob Ali, 35, of Yepur and Peddinti Ranga Reddy, 55, of Chilapakuntla in Noothankal mandal, according to Suryapet Circle Inspector M. Tirupatanna. The police recovered two toy pistols, three cell phones and a scooter from their possession. They launched a search to nab three more members of the gang - T. Suryam, V. Koteswar Rao and K. Achyuta Rama Rao of Kodad and David Kumar of Suryapet. The Inspector said that the gang had allegedly collected huge amount from contractors.
Dharna staged
Activists of the CPI (ML-New Democracy) staged a dharna in Suryapet protesting against the arrest of their leaders. They said that the police had implicated them to throttle their voice.
