HERITAGE: The Principal District and Sessions Court in Mangalore will be unaffected by the move to construct a new courts complex on the District Court premises.
MANGALORE: A long standing need for a state-of-the-art courts complex felt by litigants and members of the Mangalore Bar Association will be fulfilled here on Saturday with Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Cyriac Joseph laying the foundation stone for the complex at the District Courts complex. The project is expected to be completed in 40 months. K.S. Sharma, president of the association, told presspersons here on Thursday that the programme is being organised under the guidance of Principal District and Sessions Court Judge G.V. Hedge and is a culmination of a prolonged struggle.. He said the State Government had allocated Rs. 35 lakhs for construction of the complex in last year's budget. Mr. Sharma said the Government has promised to allocate Rs. 3 crores for the project in this year's budget. The estimate of the courts complex measuring about 17,000 square metres is nearly Rs. 14.5 crores, Mr. Sharma said. It will have eight storeys with a basement and a ground floor.Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will preside over the function. Judges of the High Court R. Gururajan, P. Vishwanath Shetty, S. Abdul Nazeer and Ram Mohan Reddy, Mr. Nagaraja Shetty and MP D.V. Sadananda Gowda will be the chief guests.
