VIJAYAWADA: Sheik Younis Khan (30), a lorry owner, was hacked to death at Gudivada in Krishna district late on Wednesday night. The police filed chargesheets against Vice-Chairman of Gudivada Municipality Sonthi Chandrasekhar of the TDP and five others in this connection on Thursday.
Professional rivalry
Khan, a resident of Nakkala Kaluva Road in the town, owned a transport lorry. Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Satyanarayana said Khan had a professional rivalry with Mr. Chandrasekhar who also owned a lorry. They used to enter into wordy duels on several occasions over issues pertaining to their business, Mr. Satyanarayana said. Khan was earlier assaulted by Mr. Chandrasekhar's associates a couple of months ago, and the police registered a case against Mr. Chandrasekhar then. Mr. Chandrasekhar, his brother Someswara Rao and four others allegedly attacked Khan at Mubarak Centre in the town around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday and hacked him to death by using sickles. All the accused persons were absconding. The Congress activists in the town took out a rally on Thursday morning demanding immediate arrest of Mr. Chandrasekhar and other accused persons.
