Forum to understand poverty

Staff Reporter

Students pursuing their bachelor's degree in Social Work formed Vidiyal, a student's forum, at the Madras School of Social Work here on Wednesday. The forum will be the means through which students try to understand and do something about poverty.

Fatima Vasanth, principal, urged the students to remain positive in the most discouraging circumstances.

Special guest R. Elango, managing trustee, Trust for Village Self-Governance, said that the economic imperialism of multinationals held more dangers than colonial rule. Changes must be made locally before big plans are drawn for transformation, he said. Officer-bearers of the forum were sworn in and an interactive session on the role of youth in national development was held.
