Chilkur temple priest submits proposals on trust board

Staff Reporter

Devotees as the board members favoured

HYDERABAD: In line with their endeavour to continue the reformatory way of running temple without hundi or tickets, Chilkur Balaji temple hereditary priest Soundarrajan submitted proposals on constitution of Temple Trust Board to the Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Instead of the Section 15 of the present Endowment Legislation, which envisages appointment of Executive Officer and political nominees as trust board members and commercialisation through hundi and tickets, proposals were given to ensure continuation of the unique tradition of Chilkur temple and appointment of devotees as trust board members. While the Chief Minister made it clear that the Government was not interested in interfering in the functioning of Chilkur temple, the Endowment Department created confusion in its response to the writ petition that they were contemplating constitution of Trust Board under Section 15, it is said.

Meanwhile, Temples Protection Movement said that an all-party committee supported a proposed amendment long ago to exempt temples with below Rs.50,000 revenue from purview of the department.
