Arakonam: The kumbhabhishekam of the newly-built Srinivasaperumal temple with a unique and interesting history, adjacent to the 700-year-old Adikesavaperumal temple at Tandalam, near Arakonam, was performed recently. The renovation work and the kumbhabhishekam of the Adikesavaperumal temple, traditionally known as "kazhagachala kshetram" and also as "siddhar padiya thandalam", were completed two years ago. During the renovation of the Anjaneyar sannidhi in this temple, an exquisite Srinivasa idol in the "abhaya hasta" mudra was unearthed from the foundation, along with an idol of Bhudevi. The two idols, along with a new Sridevi idol, have now been installed in a new temple built under the supervision of Ganapathi Sthapathi, the renowned temple building expert. The kumbhabhishekam was performed by Sriranga Battar before a large gathering of devotees. Explaining the unique feature of the new temple, Sriranga Battar said that in most temples the Thayar sannidhi was separate, but here the idol of Srinivasa was installed along with Bhudevi and Sridevi in the same sannidhi. The mandalabhishekam of the new temple is to be performed on March 31.
