CHENNAI : Residents of Anna Nagar and Mogappair will soon have more breathing space with two new parks, said Ambattur municipalofficials. The Mangaleri Kulam at one end of the Thirumangalam Road, next to the Ambattur Industrial Estate, will be given a facelift with a landscaped hill at the centre and a footpath along its banks. An 8-foot wide path, more than a kilometre long, will run along the boundaryof the 5.4-acre lake. Other works to be undertaken include strengthening of the bund, a compound wall around the lake.A private consult is being asked to finalise the beautification plan to make the place an ideal spot for an evening stroll, said Ambattur MunicipalCommissioner Jayaraman. The Commissioner and Finance Secretary of Municipal Administration inspected the lake in mid-February and their instructions were being followed, he said. The project is expected to cost more than Rs. 30 lakh and will be completed by July.
Proposal
A proposed park near the Housing Board colony in Mogappair, next to the bus stand, was under litigation. With the High Court dismissing a private individual's ownership claims, an appeal in the lower court would soon be disposed off, said officials. The ground of approximately 2.6 acres would be developed into a park following sanction, said Mr. Jayaraman. The Millennium Park in Anna Nagar Western Extension and the Thanjaratnam Park on East Avenue Road are the more popular among the few parks Ambattur has.
