TAMBARAM: In just a day's time, about 300 young men and women will find themselves in the line of fire in different, remote and far corners of the country along the border.

On Saturday morning, 296 men and women will be inducted into the Indian Army when they pass out of the Officers Training Academy, St. Thomas Mount.

The day will mark the culmination of several weeks of gruelling training in war, leadership, physical abilities and soldierly qualities.

And on Thursday, the officers-to-be displayed their all-round talent in teamwork of a different kind by putting up cultural presentations.

The evening began with presentation of various medals to the outstanding Gentelmen and Lady cadets who excelled in various fields, including endurance, sports and firing among others.

Senthil Anand, was the lone cadet from Tamil Nadu to receive a medal.

He won the OTA Silver Medal for standing first in Order of Merit among Short Service Commission (Technical Course).

Incidentally, only four — including Senthil — among the entire batch of 225 Gentlemen Cadets are from Tamil Nadu, home to the OTA.

After presentation of medals, parents and passing out cadets witnessed Bharatanatyam, Dandiya and Bhangra performances and other cultural performances including a group song and a skit.

On Friday morning, some of the passing out cadets will demonstrate their abilities during the combined skill display.
