Staff Reporter
Thiruvananthapuram: The PDP working chairman Poonthura Siraj on Thursday termed the resolution adopted by the Assembly on the Maudany issue an election stunt. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Siraj alleged that the decision to move a `weak' resolution in the Assembly was the result of a conspiracy between the UDF Government and the RSS leadership. Pointing out that the resolution was silent on the release of Mr. Maudany from jail, Mr. Siraj said the Government had failed to concede the PDP's demand to send an all-party delegation to meet the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Mr. Siraj said the prosecution in Tamil Nadu had been consistently misleading the Court while opposing Mr. Maudany's bail pleas. By seeking the Centre's intervention, the resolution would only help to provoke the Tamil Nadu Government and force them to harden their stand, he said. Mr. Siraj said the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) MLAs had stayed away from the Assembly during the discussion on the resolution. This revealed the attitude of the IUML to the issue of Mr. Maudany's release, he added.
