BANGALORE: After much delay, the State Government on Thursday constituted the Search Committees to propose names for Vice-Chancellors to Bangalore, Gulbarga and Kuvempu Universities. Former Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Vice-Chancellor Rajashekharaiah will be the government nominee in the Search Committee for the Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor. The other panel members are P.B. Prabhu, retired Additional Chief Secretary (Chancellor's nominee); S. Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor, Calcutta University (UGC nominee) and M.R. Srinivasan, Syndicate member (University nominee). The government nominee for Gulbarga varsity VC's search committee is Mariamma Varghese, former VC of the Mumbai-based S.N.D.T. Women's University. For Kuvempu University, former Bangalore University VC, N.R. Shetty will head the search panel as the government nominee. Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy has reportedly asked the three search panels to finalise the list of candidates at the earliest. The seniormost dean in the Bangalore University, B.G. Sudha, was appointed acting VC of the varsity, after M.S. Thimmappa stepped down on Tuesday.
