HOSUR: Industrialists in Hosur are unhappy over the poor road conditions in the SIPCOT industrial estate, which hinders free movement of traffic. Though numerous representations were made to the authorities concerned, it failed to evoke any response. "After a protracted struggle roads have been re-laid in the SIDCO industrial estate, which has now become motorable. Though SIPCOT makes an annual collection of Rs.5,500 an acre as maintenance charges the work executed by them has been poor," according to the director of Global Calcium, M. Chandrasekar. There are deep potholes on the entire stretch of the main road in SIPCOT. Besides, a total of 2,000 vehicles have to pass through this road to reach Rajeswari Layout, Govinda Agraharam, Begepalli and SIDCO Phase V leading to frequent traffic congestion. Because of this the roads are covered with mud and dust. The storm water drains in the SIPCOT industrial area are now filled with industrial waste and garbage. It is pointed out that industrialists should maintain each of their unit and remove the waste that is being indiscriminately dumped in front of their units. It is learnt that the Hosur Industries Association (HIA) has proposed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in the form of a joint venture between SIPCOT and HIA to take care of the maintenance of the roads as in the case of the SIPCOT in Cuddalore district. Though a plan was also prepared nothing concrete has emerged till date. The Jujuvadi panchayat, where SIPCOT is located, has failed to come to the rescue of the industrialists. Though the panchayat collects property tax, the industries are under the control of SIPCOT. A lot needs to be done to improve the lagging infrastructure especially roads in the industrial estates to attract more investment and aid in industrial growth pointed out sources.
