Hamid Ansari takes over as NCM chief

NEW DELHI: The former diplomat, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, has taken charge as chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM).

Mr. Ansari was Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, High Commissioner to Australia and Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia. He was also the Vice-Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University from May 2000 to March 2002.

Before assuming office as NCM chief, he was a member of the National Security Advisory Board.

The other two members of the commission are, Lama Chosphel Zotpa and Harcharan Singh Josh. They will be in office for three years. Lama Chosphel Zotpa was vice-chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from 2002-2004.
