1 missing as volcano erupts

WELLINGTON: One man was missing and five had to be whisked to safety by helicopter on Friday after a remote New Zealand volcano erupted, while thousands of km away, 10,000 Indonesian villagers were warned to prepare to evacuate as a smoking crater threatened to rumble into life. The eruptions, in volcanos more than 7,800 km apart, were not believed to be related. Indonesian volcanologist Syamsu Rizal said they were on different faults. ``They're too far away,'' he said, adding that scores of other volcanoes in Java were dormant. — AP
